Vacationing with children in Galtür

  • The ski school offers instruction from aprox. 3 years of age. There is a kindergarten for guests available to care for younger children while the parents ski.
  • Kids love the swimming pool. Do you need towels? Just ask!
  • Go sledding on the winter hiking trails, or go night sledding in Ischgl, Kappl or See.
  • Go ice skating
  • Book a sleighride
  • Take a break from sports: visit the museum of local history in the castle Landeck
  • It is easy to fall into the trap of spending as little as possible on children's equipment, as they will "just grow out of it again anyway". However: parka, ski pants, mittens or gloves made of water and wind resistant fabric (no knitted mittens, please!), a helmet while skiing, and otherwise a warm cap, sunglasses and goggles are simply basic necessities. In sunny weather a good sun block, and when it is cold and windy, perhaps a neck and face protector additionally. A wet, frozen, or sunburned kid can really spoil a vacation!

Bad weather:

You don't need to sit in the room just because the sun doesn't want to come out from behind the clouds!

  • Visit the Alpinarium. The building is integrated into an avalanche wall. The museum has exhibits about life in the mountains as well as special exhibits. There is also an indoor climbing wall, if desired you can organize a climbing course with a Galtür mountain guide. Have a bite to eat in the cafe afterwards.
  • The swimming pool is only a part of the sports center. There is a bowling alley, squash and tennis courts, and a restaurant to round out your bad weather activities.
  • Visit the pilgrimage church Maria Geburt.
  • Go into the woods: while on the slopes the wind is howling, there is often a wonderfull stillness in the woods. Directly behind our house you can take the cross country or winter hiking trail past the chapel in the woods to Mathon and back. In Mathon, visit the rustic "Wildererhütte" and warm up with a hot drink or a dinner of local speicialties, afterwards have a look at the animals in the small zoo.
  • Give it a try anyway: the best snow, and the least competitiion on the slopes, is when the visibility is the worst. Stay loose and enjoy the powder!
